The Hope of Loving
by: Meister Eckhart
Transl. Daniel Ladinksky
What keeps us alive, what allows us to endure?
I think it is the hope of loving,
or being loved.
I heard a fable once about the sun going on a journey
to find its source, and how the moon wept
without her lover’s
warm gaze.
We weep when light does not reach our hearts. We wither
like fields if someone close
does not rain their
kindness
upon
us.

#1: How to be happy
Are you almost disgusted with life, little man?
I’ll tell you a wonderful trick
that will bring you contentment, if anything can
Do something for somebody, quick!
Are you awfully tired with play, little girl?
Wearied, discouraged, and sick-
I’ll tell you the loveliest game in the world,
Do something for somebody quick!
Though it rains like the rain of the flood, little man
and the clouds are forbidding and thick,
You can make the sun shine in your soul, little man
Do something for somebody, quick!
Though the stars are like brass overhead, little girl,
and the walks like a well-heated brick
and our earthly affairs in a terrible whirl,
Do something for somebody, quick!

A butterfly lights beside us like a sunbeam…And for a brief moment it’s glory and beauty belong to our world…But then it flies again…And though we wish it could have stayed we feel lucky to have seen it.

Sometimes your Heart can lose its Joy, and you wonder if you’ll ever find it again…
Sometimes your Spirit gets weak from the stress and strain of life, and your load seems too heavy to bear…
But at Times like this, I want you to Remember that the Battle is not yours alone…
Hold on to Your Faith and hand your Troubles to the Lord…
He is always willing and able to make everything alright.

Trees
Poet – Joyce Kilmer
I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.
A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
Against the earth’s sweet flowing breast;
A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;
A tree that may in Summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;
Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.
Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.
